Online Gaming Communication – How Do Players Socialize Online?

The interactive and social nature of online games is the primary reason gaming has become so popular. Those who want to reach out to others and expand their friend base can find virtual friends waiting to play games with them online. Those who are stuck in their homes most of the time and just want someone else to talk to really enjoy the time they spend communicating with others while playing online games. In many cases, friends are formed across international boundaries, because physical location does not matter in the world of online gaming.

Those who have not personally experienced gaming online may wonder how communication is possible over the Internet. How can someone in Oklahoma possibly play a game and chat through the night with someone from India? There are even people on opposite ends of the country and the world who fall in love online. How is this possible?

The most basic form of communication in the online social gaming world is the simple instant chat platform. Many gaming sites allow players to enter private “rooms” with other players, and there is a chat box where they can type messages back and forth. These rooms are really just separate screens that pop up on the computer screens for all players in the game. They can communicate through the chat box throughout their game, while thousands of others have private conversations in other virtual rooms (screens).

That type of communication in a game’s world is much like texting someone on a cell phone, except they type on the keyboard of their computer. There are also more complex ways for communication to take place during online games. Some games allow players to connect through web cams and microphones. This allows all players to see one another and put real faces to the online screen names.

This more personal form of online gaming communication is appealing to some, but not to others. Some people do not want their real faces and lives to be revealed in the online gaming world. For them, games that allow players to create avatars to represent their character online are far preferred. These games allow direct communication between players, but every player has their own avatar that is prevented to other players.

An avatar is a cartoon-like image that can be designed differently by each player. This is done by selecting different hair colors and styles, body shapes and sizes, and different facial structures and skin colors. Clothing can often be selected as well.

In games like Second Life, players can actually purchase clothing, homes, cars, and other belongings that show others in the virtual world who they are and what they are like. These avatars and online lives may or may not reflect who the player is in real life apart from the online world.

Online socialization is very rewarding and fulfilling for many people. Those who do not get the acceptance they would like in their real lives are able to find people online who validate them as individuals. In this way, online gaming can be powerful in the lives of gamers.

Getting Started With Online Gaming

An up-to-date computer system or console, and an Internet connection, are all that you need to get yourself started in the world of online gaming. You don’t even necessarily have to buy a game, as there are free demo games that you can download that allow you to interact with, and compete against, other people from around the world.

So, now a bit more detail about exactly what hardware you need in order to play online games. The biggest choice is whether to opt for a gaming console, such as an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, or a home computing system, such as a PC or a Mac. Either is good for the purpose, so which one you choose is really down to personal preference. As for your Internet connection, you absolutely need to have a high speed broadband connection, otherwise when you play, if you can play at all, you’ll experience extremely slow loading times, and lots of in-game lags and delays.

As for the actual games, well, there are literally thousands to choose from. In fact, so many that the choice can be somewhat overwhelming. There are a great many different types of online games out there that you can consider based on your particular tastes in gaming. These include, but are not limited to, first person shooter games, real time strategy games, cross platform games, browser based games and massively multiplayer online games.

The most important thing that you need to do when readying yourself to become a member of the online gaming community is to sit down and review the plethora of sites out there on the Internet that offer online gaming and decide which one has the most features and games that might be of interest to you, both at the moment and in the foreseeable future, as your needs, wants and desires change. There’s no need to load yourself down with too much information and too many details though as, after all, gaming is meant to be fun!

Once you have the necessary hardware, it’s actually very easy to jump straight in and start playing an online game straight away. In fact, that’s probably the best approach – first try some games out, work out your likes and dislikes, and make a note of any problems you come across, and then go seeking the advice of others from websites and forums later.

How to Protect Your Children When Engaged in Online Gaming Communities

Today we see the OLPC or One Laptop Per Child program help bring emerging nations into the 21st Century and children can communicate with one another from other nations, they can work together and collaborate using computers to do projects and group thinking. This is a wonderful thing indeed, then there are international blogging groups where bloggers from around the world communicate and discuss things. We also see how sporting events like the Olympics and Soccer have united the world, and let’s not forget the Space Program too.

Still, it makes sense to continue to unite the world and ditch the misunderstanding involved in the vast differences in culture, religions and customs. Another way we can do this is through online gaming communities that use networks that go worldwide so that the players can work in teams and even compete against each other, thus building camaraderie too. Luckily, this is already taking place and many computer gamers are linked up and participating in online gaming, with folks not just in their own nations, but half way around the globe.

This new trend and the availability of high speed networks and internet is making it all possible, and the speeds are similar to being in the next room and on the same network, imagine the future possibilities for peace, all through something as simple and fun as online gaming. Recently, the Online Think Tank noted the speeds and increasing ability of international internet networking, mostly due to online trading, where everything happens instantaneously. Nevertheless, borrowing these ultra fast systems, means ultra fact communication in gaming and perhaps the ultimate in new way to unite the world.

Introduction to Online Gaming

There’s a lot to know to start with about online gaming before you even attempt to target your chosen niche. Most of the people involved in online gaming are pretty clued up about their chosen game and are extremely cynical.

This is probably why not many people have tried to tackle online gaming as a useful niche. True, a lot of people are cynical as a whole but even more so amongst the online gaming community.

A lot of people have a lot of different and conflicting views and there’s nothing more frustrating than attempting to put your view across to someone who is adamant that they are right. Gaming forums are pretty harsh places to go to as well when you are new to gaming as a whole.

The main people who are gamers are obviously male. Why? Probably because of the competitive nature of online games and the fact that it’s easy to hide behind a computer screen and express yourself.

The fact that online gaming is starting to actually be classes as a legitimate sport may seem strange if you’ve never ventured in to one of these games before. Games these days are extremely skill and tactics based and seem to be the “chess modern times”.

The skill level can vary wildly when playing online.

Take my favourite game online Quake, this is classed as an “FPS” game or “First Person Shooter” (not to be confused with FPS – frames per second).

It first started off in 1996. It was and still is one of the biggest online games of all time and well known throughout the world. Last summer Quake 4 was released. You have players new to quake 4 and players who have been playing Quake since 1996. That’s 10 years of solid experience at playing. You may be shocked if you were to play Quake 4 today and find one player who will beat every player in a chosen server by an extremely high margin. You may not even be able to “frag” or kill this player yourself.

A lot of these players will have a “tag in front or after their names showing that they are part of a “clan” or “gang”. These clans are made up of many types of people young and old and a lot of these clans are filled with “pro” gamers who can actually afford to send their players around the world to compete in tournaments through the sponsor ship money they receive from big companies. A lot of clans just play for fun or in the numerous online leagues and tournaments. Each clan constitutes a mini community which interacts with other clans and creates a huge ever-changing community within the chosen game.

Another style of game that is played by millions of people everyday is the mmorpg.

This is a multiplayer online game that is normally fantasy based where you team up with players fro all over the world and go on missions and join guilds the equivalent to Quake Clans. A lot of these games you have to actually “pay to play” online. So you pay a monthly subscription fee just to play online every month.

Another HUGE “FPS” game is Counter Strike which has one of the biggest online FPS communities at the moment, also worth checking out is “Battle Field 2”

The best way to get involved in gaming is to simply pick a game and jump in the deep end. Get online and experience it for yourself pick a type of game you think you would enjoy playing, because after all, most people play games for fun. If you’re aiming to be successful marketing your product within the gaming community you have to have first hand experience.

Why work in a niche market like weddings for example when you have never been married or don’t work in the marriage industry to start with? If you have been married once or even twice then you only have those few experiences to draw experience from, where as in the gaming world, everyday could would become a fresh experience in an ever-changing community and online word.

Who knows, it may even becomes a permanent hobby for you as well and you can learn to work with something you enjoy!

There’s a lot to know to start with about online gaming before you even attempt to target your chosen niche. Most of the people involved in online gaming are pretty clued up about their chosen game and are extremely cynical.

The Future is Bright For Online Gaming

The world of gaming has developed to the extent that even choosing a way to play games is a difficult decision in itself. As well as the range of gaming platforms, there is also the cost to consider, and you wouldn’t get much change from a few months worth of mortgage payments if you were to buy every gaming system and console currently on the market. With the cost of the actual games too, you can literally go broke staying on top of things if you are a avid gamer. The cost of involvement hasn’t hindered the development of the gaming industry though, which is now more popular than ever before.

The online capabilities of most gaming platforms and games has been highlighted as the principal reason for the beyond expected growth of the gaming industry. Whilst online gaming has been around in one form or another for some time, it is only lately that it has come into its own. From the days of simply playing ‘Pong’ with a friend in the same room, we now find ourselves in a time where we can play games with graphics resembling a movie, against 20+ people simultaneously, from all around the world.

Not long ago the dream of online gaming was a pipe dream, because while the computers might have been fast enough to manage it, the Internet connections were generally not that good. Today, with the advent of high speed connections like Cable and DSL, it is possible to play online as well as you would if you were physically wired into the same console as your opponent and in the same room.

Obviously, the range and type of games available these days has also contributed to the boom in online gaming. There is something, and more, for everyone, regardless of their age, tastes and gaming experience. Gaming companies have recognized that there is serious money to be made from producing quality games and are investing more time and money into pushing the boundaries of what can be done. The better the games they make, the more people become gamers, the bigger the market, and more reason there is to make an even better game next time around – everyone is a winner.

Most of these various games come with a plethora of online support from various communities, and the more popular the game, the more involved the community becomes. There are many groups out there that are dedicated solely to the enjoyment and play of a particular game. Much like fans of Star Trek have been known to have gatherings and such, the online gaming community has been known to be a very enthusiastic bunch. In fact, a good many online gamers actually use this as a networking opportunity, where they can meet others that share in the same desires and interests.

So, the future is bright for online gaming!

Online Games – How Flash and Java Script Changed the World

The majority of games that are played online are coded in a manner that means they can be played on most computer platforms. As a result, anyone who plays a particular game should have an experience that is pretty much the same as anyone else who plays it, regardless of what type of computer they are using. This means that instead of having many smaller, distinct online gaming communities, we now have a single, much larger one.

The ability to have the same online gaming experience, regardless of the computer hardware that you have, has been made possible through the creation and continued development of Flash and Java Script – which are both programming languages. As these two languages began to get recognition, more and more games began to be made using them, with the result being that gamers were demanding that any new computer they bought had the capabilities to play them.

Before the universal adoption of Flash and Java Script, PC users and Mac users were mostly unable to play against each other in online games. Now, not only can they do so, but they can do on a totally equal playing field, where users of either see, hear and experience exactly what users of the other platform are also seeing, hearing and experiencing.

These new computing languages not only brought online gamers closer together, they are also significantly improved the quality and range of online games. Once implemented, the Internet experience shifted from one that was primarily geared towards data retrieval to one that was leaning towards a well-rounded multimedia experience which incorporated sight and sounds not previously possible.

Progress and developments since then have been fast and furious, and online games as they now were beyond imagination just 10 years ago. It’s really been a snowball effect, that started with the introduction of Flash and Java Script. Those two languages opened up the Internet to lots of new people, and as more people began to use the Internet, the more companies set about improving the online experience in terms of technology and connection speeds, so as to meet the demands of the ever increasing online market.

Such improvements within the industry have unsurprisingly led to an influx of new people to the world of online gaming – which means the market is bigger, there is more money available, and, as a result, game producers create bigger and better games in order to gain a bigger share of it. The result? Even better times for gamers everywhere!

Way back in the 1980’s many people first got interested in video gaming thanks to shooting games like Duck Hunt and other classic Nintendo Games like Super Mario Brothers. I still remember the first time I played Super Mario Brothers in Christmas 1987 and still enjoy it to this day thanks to the rise in online gaming. Many of my favorite classic Nintendo games are now online and I can play them anytime from my PC, laptop or Android Phone.

Online Games Are Easy

There are a lot of online options available that cover every possible genre, style and interest so you will never have a shortage of games to choose from.

Online Games Can Be Addictive
It’s very easy to get deep into gaming and become a part of the growing online game community that you join. Even though you’re having fun with your online game be sure to pace yourself and take time to live your life outside of the gaming world that you’re a part of. It’s easy to get addicted to gaming and everything else in your life will suffer in some way because of it. You can avoid getting addicted to gaming by sticking with a set amount of time every day that you spend playing your favorite games. Once your time online is up every day focus on something else that doesn’t involve being online like spending time with your family, friends and enjoying your life.

Online Gaming Communities

Contrary to popular belief, the online arcade gaming community is still as strong as ever. Even in today’s modern graphic oriented society, there are still a vast number of dedicated online arcade communities that survive.

These communities have refused to fade away and die, even with today’s technological advances in computer graphics; the communities are still as strong as ever.

A lot of this may be down to the fact hat the online arcade games communities still manage to conduct regular tournaments that offer huge prize money to the winners.

In May of 2007, there was a tournament hosted in New York to find the winner of the Pac man championships hosted by none other than Xbox live.

The winner of the tournament received 100,000 Microsoft points, and a Pac man live arcade trophy, but what they really wanted was the Pac man inspired Xbox 360 console which was the only one of its kind in the world.

The finalists came from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Asia, Mexico, the United States and Canada. All were selected by a criteria of scores on Xbox live arcade gaming.

The online arcade game community has benefited from the surge of multi player games to be introduced online.

The close knit community of online gamers is probably down to the fact that it spans from another era, and continually struggles in the face of all the new competition.

But thanks to many arcade games seeing a resurgence on hand held apps and consoles, it is safe to say that online arcade game communities are here to stay

The arcade game communities have survived a lot of challenges over the years, but this has just made them stronger.

Even though the number of online arcade game members in the community rose due to the introduction of the Internet, the community still remains a close knit affair.
